SAO PAULO – Management João Doria (PSDB) announced on Tuesday 22 that the entire state will be in the red phase, the most restrictive of the plan to combat covid-19, between December 25, 26 and 27 and December 1, 2 and January 3. As Estadão anticipated, only essential services can open their doors during Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
According to the government, in the last four weeks there was an increase of 54% of cases, 34% of deaths and 13% of hospitalizations in São Paulo. To date, there are more than 1.3 million diagnoses and 45,395 deaths from covid.
The government also announced that the Presidente Prudente area was reclassified to the red phase. In the region, the occupancy of beds would be 83%.
Also according to the government, no region of the state will go into the green phase, the softest of the São Paulo Plan, during the month of January. The next reclassification is scheduled for day 6.
“Nine months have passed, Christmas is coming. I really wanted to be here saying that we can celebrate freely, with our family, on the streets, with the crowd. This is not the reality, the coronavirus is not going to go away at Christmas, “said the Secretary of Economic Development, Patricia Ellen, who was moved during the announcement. “Our level is high and we want to prevent it from getting out of control”
