a oil leaks this Saturday (12/19) in one of BR Distribuidora pumps, privatized by the federal government last year, caused riots near Refinaria Ministro Gabriel Passos (Regap), in Betim. According to a complaint from Sindipetro (MG) this Sunday (12/20), at least 100,000 liters of the material reached Crrego Pintados and walked to Lagoa de Ibirit. The company, for its part, claims that only 300 liters of fuel have been spilled. The incident occurred during a diesel pumping operation at the Betim Terminal (TEBET).
According to the union, the oil that reached Crrego Pintados contaminated the channel that passes through the Gabriel Passos Refinery (Regap). Also according to the agency’s registry, the volume discharged corresponds to more than three times the fuel that is loaded through a tank route.
“Around 6 am, there was a pump seal leak. BR Distribuidora is not next to Refinaria Ministro Gabriel Passos, it is next. The lion crossed, fell into the stream of Pintado, which passes through the interior of Regape, and was felt in the Ibirit lagoon. Petrobrs carries out the contingency to ensure that the oil does not reach the lagoon. There was still no measure of whether the lagoon arrived and the situation is still not completely controlled. If it reaches the lagoon, the oil reaches the Paraopeba river, which would be the biggest problem ”, informed the general coordinator of Sindipetro, Alexandre Finamori.
Since the problem occurred, a Petrobras team that serves Regap’s Safety, Environment and Health (SMS) sector, acted in the region to contain the leak.
The workers of the state company denounced the absence of the BR Distribuidora teams and the uncoordinated actions of the recently privatized company in the face of such a serious environmental emergency.
“We denounce this issue because BR Distribuidora was privatized (in 2019) and does not have the same owner as today. What needs to be improved is that there was no coordinated action and the emergency situation was somewhat chaotic. They must know who is responsible at all times, ”says Finamori.
BR Distribuidora position
In a note sent to State of Minas, BR Distributor I affirm that The spilled material was already collected this Sunday: “The filtered volume was practically all identified in the contained area, within the limits of the Base, being sent for reprocessing and without environmental impact. and the few traces of fuel identified and contained indicate a volume no greater than 300 liters. The inspections in Lagoa and in the stream that drains it towards the Paraopeba River did not identify signs of contamination ”.
The company assures that it will continue to monitor the affected area: in a preventive manner, the area and its surroundings will continue to be monitored and an internal commission has already begun to investigate the causes of the accident, reported by BR to the environmental agency, which is monitoring the management work of contingencies. . BR is acting with total priority not only to mitigate the potential impacts of the episode, but also to identify its causes and block them. The company reinforces my commitment to an always safe operation, delivering the energy it sells to society with quality and ethics.
