Jair Bolsonaro will not be vaccinated against Covid-19. At least that is what his statement affirms shortly after presenting the National Vaccination Plan together with the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello.

“I will not get the vaccine [contra a Covid-19] period. My problem, ”he argued.

The President of the Republic also defended that the approved vaccines against the coronavirus should be applied only to those who are interested. About those who do not want the vaccine, he believes that these people should be respected for their vision.

Bolsonaro’s term of responsibility

This week another controversial statement by Bolsonaro took place. He informed that he will present a Provisional Measure to include a term of responsibility that must be signed by people who wish to be vaccinated. According to that term, the people who get vaccinated would be responsible for the effects caused by the immunizer.

The measure, which can be stopped by the Supreme Federal Court, would be valid for 120 days and would need to be approved by Congress to remain valid.

Despite the promise, the president did not present such a measure.

The plan for administering the vaccine

The plan presented by President Jair Bolsonaro before his declaration has no start date. The document defines at least 5 immunization stages but does not have an expected start. Pazuello, however, says that vaccination can start from February.

For this, the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) needs to authorize the emergency request of the laboratories that comply with the sanitary and clinical requirements of the control body. According to Anvisa, this authorization can arrive up to 10 days after the registration request.

The government’s vaccination plan competes with that of João Doria, governor of São Paulo, Bolsonaro’s political enemy and a possible presidential candidate in 2022. Doria began manufacturing China’s Coronavac vaccine at the Butantan institute.

The Brazilian government, however, announced that it should release up to 20 billion reais to put into operation the manufacture and distribution of 300 million immunizers. The origin of these immunizers is not clear in Bolsonaro’s plan.
