Simon Houlder, 30, died after being pushed from a boat by his friends and, while trying to get back to the boat, got his leg stuck in the propeller. The victim had traveled with six friends to celebrate her birthday.

The victim was rescued but ended up dying in hospital from hemorrhage due to severe blood loss. This week, three months after the incident, the investigation determined that the death was accidental.

The investigation indicates that Simon and the group of friends laughed and drank on the boat. Then, they started pushing each other into the River Bure. Two colleagues were pushed into the water before the victim, and the boat backed up so that they were to one side and could return to the boat.

When the victim was thrown into the water, the boat reversed again and the man began to swim towards the rear of the boat, where the propeller was located.

Frederick Collins, one of the group, said he yelled at Simon to swim to the side of the boat and asked whoever was driving the boat to stop, but the noise was so loud that neither of them would have heard the requests.

“Simon got to a meter from the back of the boat and realized that the boat was not stopping [para ele subir na embarcação]. I could see the fear etched on his face, ”recalled Frederick.

Collins reported that his friend “disappeared under the water” and three other members of the group jumped into the river when Simon appeared screaming from the side of the boat. The victim was airlifted to the hospital after the rescue, but could not resist the injuries.

“The boys with whom [Simon] they were a group of brothers to us. We have no reason to believe that something unfavorable has happened [para causar a morte]. It was a tragic accident, ”said Jacqueline, Simon’s mother.
