This Tuesday (15), centers and prosecutors of the Public Ministry of Ceará (MPCE) requested, through two letters, that Pastor Davi Goés, from the Canaã Ministry of the Assembly of God, in Fortaleza, Be civilly and criminally liable for spreading false news about the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine.. In a video circulating on social networks, the priest says that the vaccine can cause cancer and has HIV inside.
The video was published by the report, but was taken off the air Wednesday by YouTube for “damage the medical information policy related to COVID-19 “.
In an interview with the Verdes Mares System, the pastor stated that he was a victim of intentional Fake News. “Someone who was not willing to change a 40-minute lesson on a video without the background that I used. I didn’t say anything, I just informed the Church,” he said.
Davi Góes cites international scientific articles that justify the speech delivered during the video. The Pastor says “having made use of his constitutional right to freedom of expression, when issuing their personal opinion, it is up to each member to analyze and weigh the information transmitted, including scientific information ”.
The Secretary of Health of the State of Ceará (Sesa), to whom he sent the letter from the civil sphere, confirmed the receipt of the letter from the Public Ministry and that, after analyzing the file, it will respond to the request of the body of its competence.

“Many people will die of cancer, thinking it was cancer because he ate something, because it was hereditary, because he has a family, because of a tumor, but in reality it was because of the vaccine. After this substance enters our body it will reach our DNA, a French scientist said that even HIV has inside it, ”said the pastor in the video.
According to the MPCE, the conduct of the religious leader violates the law of crimes of causing fanfare, announcing disaster or nonexistent danger, performing an act capable of produce panic or confusion in addition to not complying with a state law that holds those who spread false news related to the Covid-19 pandemic regulated in May of this year responsible.
The MP also claims that the pastor mentions, at the time of the video filming, linked scientific material on some Internet video portals and channels. The prosecutor and coordinator of the Center for Operational Support for the Defense of Citizenship (CAOCidadania), Enéas Romero de Vasconcelos, explains that the prosecutor who accepts the letter from the criminal sphere must decide, but still without a fixed date.
In case of liability for fault, the accused is punished with a fine or imprisonment that can vary from 15 days to six months.
For Enéas, it is necessary to remember the social role of each one. “If I need help with health, I should go to a doctor. If I need spiritual help, I look for a pastor. Who does not know the area of another, does not speak,” he defends.
“If a single person present in the Church during the recording agrees with what he said, stops getting vaccinated and gets sick, that is very serious. It takes a lot of responsibility. And I think that the pastor, first of all, should be portraying, assuming. There is no serious scientific evidence that the Covid-19 vaccine alters DNA, or transmits diseases, ”concludes the prosecutor.
For Caroline Parahyba, member of the Health Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-CE), even if the speech was substantiated, the act of speaking for many people must be taken into account, which can negatively influence the collective thinking about the vaccine.
This procedure, which refers to the criminal sphere, was prepared by the Operational Support Center for the Defense of Citizenship, the Elderly, People with Disabilities and Public Health (Caocidadania), Criminal Operational Support Center (Caocrim) and by Health Defense Prosecutors.
The second letter, sent to Sesa, mentions that the conduct of the pastor violates State Law No. 17.207 / 2020, regulated by Decree 33.605, of May 22, 2020 and that deals with liability for those who spread false news related to the pandemic.
The pastor says he has not yet received any official notification from the agencies and stresses that his lawyers will handle the matter.
