A man was shot by New York police on Sunday afternoon (13) after firing shots on the steps of a church in Manhattan at the end of a Christmas performance. The information is from the Associated Press agency.
The shooter was taken to hospital in critical condition, and police say there is no indication that anyone other than him was shot.
The shooting took place shortly before 4 pm (6 pm GMT), at the Cathedral of San Juan el Divino, where a 45-minute performance had just ended and people were already leaving the scene.

Police officers who were present to ensure safety took action and fired at the sniper, who was reportedly armed with a rifle.
