The Belo Horizonte City Council obtained, from the Minas Gerais Court of Justice, this Saturday afternoon, the revocation of the preliminary judicial order that allowed the sale of alcoholic beverages in the city’s bars. Consumption was suspended since last Monday (7). On Friday, the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel) filed a mandamus appeal, requesting the revocation of the decree. On that occasion, the Justice granted a favorable decision.
The judge responsible for the case highlighted in the decision that the Executive is responsible for planning and coordinating public health actions. In addition, he noted that the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic forces the authorities to implement specific health protection.
In a note, the president of the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), Paulo Solmucci, reported that the decision does not take into account the dramatic situation in the sector. He also said that he hopes that a new court order in the first instance will allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages in establishments, which, according to him, is being carried out in accordance with health protocols.
