The week ends with the worst figures recorded since the start of the pandemic in Mato Grosso do Sul. In 7 days, 8,149 cases were registered. Not even at the peak of infected, in August, were so many people infected during this period. Last week, the index was already critical, with 7,122 positive tests, 1,000 less than now, indicating a rapid pace of evolution.

The death toll is also alarming: 86 people lost their lives as a result of COVID-19 in Mato Grosso do Sul since last Saturday.

The epidemiological bulletin since Saturday (12) brings 1,541 new cases and 16 deaths, 7 of the deaths in Campo Grande. The youngest victim is from the capital, a man died at just 44 years old and did not report any comorbidity that would complicate the disease.

The moving average of positive tests has risen sharply in the last 7 days, from 1,017 in week 49 monitored to 1,164 in week 50, with almost 50 infected per hour. The State buries an average of 12.2 inhabitants a day, 1 every two hours.

The ICU occupancy rate also soared. For the first time, the week ends with two macro-regions targeting more than 100% of the beds full. In Campo Grande, for example, it is 104%. But according to the State Health Department, this is because the beds activated in recent days have not yet been officially registered by the Ministry of Health. The government denies that any patient has been left unattended due to lack of beds.

There are already 645 people hospitalized, more than three times the number registered 1 month ago. On November 12 there were 211 hospitalized and only 103 in the ICU. Currently, 264 critical patients occupy beds in Intensive Care Units, the majority in public hospitals.
