The City of Niterói signed an agreement with the Butantan Institute, in São Paulo, to buy 1.1 million doses of the Coronavac vaccine.

The municipality will make an investment of R $ 57 million in the immunization project, at a cost of 10 dollars per dose. First 300 thousand vaccines will arrive in the city at the end of January for health professionals and seniors.

Vaccination schedule

According to Mayor Rodrigo Neves, the amount is sufficient to immunize the entire population of the city, which has more than 500,000 inhabitants.

According to the schedule proposed to Butantan and signed by the institutional director of the Institute, Raúl Machado, there would be 300 thousand doses available at the end of January for health professionals and the elderly, another 300 thousand doses by the end of February, distributed to citizens with comorbidities and healthcare professionals. education and others 500 thousand for the rest of the population during the first semester, until May.

According to the municipal executive branch, Niterói is the only city in Rio de Janeiro that tests phase 3 of the Coronavac vaccine, in alliance with the Butantan Institute and Fiocruz.

The city also reported that the results of phase 3 were considered excellent, with complete immunization and no side effects.

Chamber Authorized Vaccine

Last Wednesday (9), the councilors of Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, approved the law that authorizes the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19 for application in the municipality.

The new legislation authorizes the city to buy one of the available vaccines against the disease, as long as it is approved by Anvisa and is not distributed by the Federal Government.

The law approved by the City Council is authored by Councilor Paulo Eduardo Gomes (PSOL), president of the Health Commission of the local Legislative.

In accordance with the text of the new legislation, the municipality is also authorized to participate in consortia with states and / or other municipalities, with the aim of sharing resources and technologies, conducting research, or developing local vaccine production capacity, especially to through agencies. and institutions.
