UK says some allergy sufferers should not get the Pfizer vaccine

The UK’s MHRA (Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency) said that people with excessive allergies should not receive the Pfizer / BioNtech vaccine, which began yesterday. This warning was issued after two people had strong reactions to the immunizer. They are both recovering well from the problem.

The MHRA explained that the restriction is only for those who have a “significant” history of allergic reactions to vaccines, drugs or foods. So from now on, everyone who gets vaccinated will be asked.

The problem happened to two employees of the NHS, the UK health system. They were allergic enough to have to walk with a autoinjector adrenalin. They both had an anaphylactic reaction minutes after receiving the vaccine, but received quick treatment and are recovering well, according to NHS.

Professor Stephen Powis, NHS National Medical Director, said this type of event “is common with new vaccines,” so it is important that people get vaccinated in places with facilities available for immediate care.

This week, the Brazilian Ministry of Health announced that it is negotiating the purchase of around 70 million doses of the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech.

In November, the pharmaceutical giant announced that its vaccine is 95% effective after completing phase 3 trials, the latest with mass vaccination among volunteers.
