A black activist died on Tuesday (8), in Porto Alegre, during an operation of the Military Brigade of Rio Grande do Sul. The information is from Folha.
Jane Beatriz Silva Nunes died from a fall on the stairs of her house, in Vila Cruzeiro, in Porto Alegre, after the police tried to enter her house, according to lawyer Marcia Soares, of the NGO Themis, where Jane was linked.
The activist was reportedly returning from the market when she saw police officers trying to enter the residence. She allegedly resisted and asked authorities to see the warrant to enter the home, according to the lawyer.
Local residents protested Jane’s death Tuesday afternoon. The NGO Themis, which deals with discrimination against women in the justice system, was one of those in charge of convening the event.
According to the lawyer, the Military Brigade had already approached the houses of the Vila Cruzeiro residents.
In a publication on social networks, the NGO Themis assures that “it is fundamental and urgent that the circumstances of Jane’s death be rigorously investigated by the competent authorities; that the family and the community receive adequate support and respect from the State and that the Public Power adopt concrete actions so that the rights and life of blacks and the periphery are no longer systematically violated ”. In the report, the advisor to the Military Brigade sent information that the General Institute of Legal Medicine of Rio Grande do Sul “identified the spontaneous rupture of a brain aneurysm as a cause of death. No signs of trauma were found on the body to justify death. “
