The Police are investigating the case of a black man who claims to have been attacked inside a supermarket in Várzea da Palma (MG) after an employee suspected that he stole a pair of boots from the site last Saturday (5). According to Alex Júnior Alves de Souza, he was also cursed by one of the “black thief’s” attackers. The information is from the Estado de Minas newspaper.
According to the case report, the victim bought a pair of boots from a supermarket and immediately began wearing them. Then he went to another supermarket where he tried on a pair of sandals and bought a chicken.
According to Alex Júnior, when he was at the checkout to pay for the purchase, he was approached by an employee who suspected that he had stolen the boots he was wearing. The clerk reportedly asked the man to lift his foot to check that the new shoes were not really from the supermarket. However, Alex Junior refused to do that.
He was then reportedly dragged into a room by security guards, where he was reportedly beaten with punches to the head, face and stomach. A customer filmed the moment when the child was approached and taken to the supermarket, but a person interrupted the recording.
Also according to the police report, Alex Junior would have stayed in the room for about an hour, until an employee went to the other supermarket to confirm that he had actually bought the pair of boots at the establishment.
The Military Police said that after the complaint, they went to the home of one of the officers suspected of the attack, but did not find him. To the police, the supermarket manager claimed that there was a physical fight between Alex and the employee.
In his report, Alex Junior also stated that, after everything was clarified, the supermarket manager apologized for what happened, did not charge for purchases and even offered Alex a job, which he would not have accepted. The case must be investigated by the Civil Police.
