Despite the increase in cases of COVID-19, President Jair bolsonaro He said he wanted face-to-face classes back at all levels of education. In a conversation with supporters when he returned to the Palácio da Alvorada, on Wednesday 2, the chief executive criticized the resistance of the deans to the resumption.
“We are trying to go back to school. Now I have spoken with the Minister of Education. We want to return to face-to-face classes at all levels, but the rectors have already arrived… ‘no, we just want to start in 2022’. So, in my opinion, it doesn’t make sense, ”said the president.
Bolsonaro’s demonstration takes place on the same day that the Ministry of Education published, and was pressured to revoke, an ordinance that recommended the resumption of face-to-face classes in higher education institutions as of January 4.
Concern about the new escalation of contamination by the coronavirus has led States and institutions to act with caution to reestablish routines. In the city of São Paulo, classes are authorized only for secondary school, and groups of parents mobilize to request a return in person at the end of this year.
As Estadão showed, the MEC ordinance could be prosecuted because universities have autonomy and there is a legal provision for regional governments to make health decisions.
The negative repercussion of Minister Milton Ribeiro’s ordinance, among institutions and experts who said that the measure was unconstitutional, ended up pushing back the government.
Mourão
In the dialogue with supporters, Bolsonaro, without a mask, also commented on the decision of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to adopt the red flag in the light tariff starting this month.
The president reaffirmed that the measure is necessary to avoid blackouts and rationing. He also said that he ordered the Alvorada team to take steps to reduce energy use starting the following month.
In making the comment, he said that the measures could create security problems and concluded by jokingly suggesting that the official guard prefers him to vice, Hamilton Mourão.
“I want the electricity bill for next month to be lower than this. I am not paying. It’s the corporate card. How many people eat here every day? More than 150 people. And you have to be safe. With all due respect to the people here, there is no such thing as perfect security. There may be a problem there one day. And they protect me because they prefer me (sic) to vice, “he said laughing.
