Paraná will have a “curfew” starting this Wednesday (2). Due to the increase in cases of people infected by the new coronavirus, the governor of Paraná, Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior (PSD), signed a decree (6,284 / 2020) in which a time limit is established for the movement of people in the public road. The so-called “curfew” will be one of the 11 pm to 5 am. The period of validity is 15 days, extendable or not.

Only essential services, such as public health and safety, are exempted from the restriction. The essential activities are those defined by Decree 4,317, of March 21, 2020.

According to the state government, the Paraná Military Police “will expand the inspection, reinforcing the work of the municipal guards.” The idea, still according to the state government, would be “to intensify operations, in order to slow down crowds, especially those with consumption of alcoholic beverages.”

“The situation is very serious. We need this curfew to break the transmission speed of the virus. And make people aware that they stay home. Whoever can, must respect isolation and social distance ”, said the Secretary of State for Health, Beto Preto, to the State News Agency, the official communication body of the Paraná government.

Since the start of the pandemic until now, Paraná has added 282,645 cases of infected people and 6,160 deaths as a result of Covid-19.

Sesa warns about the bed occupancy rate

The decree signed by Governor Ratinho establishes that the curfew is being adopted because the “virus reproduction rate index is above the average for the capacity of exclusive ICU beds for Covid-19”. The “expansion of exclusive ICU beds to Covid-19 is already in its last stage, with a lack of human resources, supplies and equipment in the current scenario,” the decree continues.

The bulletin published this Tuesday (1st) by the State Department of Health (Sesa) reveals that there are 1,083 hospitalized patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19. Of these, 790 occupy positions in the SUS and 293 in the private network. There are another 1,536 hospitalized patients awaiting test results. They are found in public and private beds and are considered suspected cases of Sars-CoV-2 infection.

Also according to Sesa, the occupancy rate for ICU beds for adults in Paraná is 84%. The Eastern macro-region, which is home to the capital, the metropolitan region and the coast, has an occupation of 91% in the ICU. It is the Paraná region that, according to Sesa, is going through the worst moment in relation to vacancies in hospitals.
