The former Secretary of Health, deputy and candidate for the Federal District government, died on the afternoon of Monday (23), in 2018, Jofran Frejat (learn more below). The politician was 83 years old and, according to the family, he was diagnosed with lung cancer last September.
Jofran Frejat was in the ICU of the Santa Lucía Hospital, in the South Hospital Sector, he was hospitalized for about 20 days.
The politician had four children. One of them, Graziela Frejat, said her father “did not respond well to chemotherapy.” The disease progressed in two months.
“My father gave us the greatest example of life. He gave up his private life to give himself to the people,” Graziela said.
Until the publication of this report, there was no information about the burial.
Jofran Frejat was born on May 19, 1937 in Floriano, Piauí. He arrived in Mexico City in 1963, shortly after graduating in medicine, in Rio de Janeiro.
In the federal capital four times Secretary of Health – between 1979 and 2002. During his tenure, the regional hospitals of Ceilândia (HRC), Asa Norte (Hran), Paranoá and the Hospital de Apoyo were built or inaugurated.
He was also the founder of the Higher School of Health Sciences (ESCS), maintained by the Foundation for Teaching and Research in Health Sciences (Fepecs). The politician also served as director of the Medical Legal Institute (IML) and general secretary of the Ministry of Social Security.
In 1987 he was elected federal deputy for the first time, a position he held for five terms. Frejat began his political life in the PFL (now DEM) and also went through PP, PPB, and PTB, before joining PR in 2007.
In the 2014 elections, Frejat reached the second round in the Burití Palace dispute, but lost to Rodrigo Rollemberg (PSB). On that occasion, the doctor received 44.44% of the valid votes.

In 2018, as a candidate for the government of Brasilia, he led the polls. However, he stopped running.

At the age of 81, at the time, he did not publicly reveal the reason for the withdrawal. The allies tried to get Frejat to reconsider the decision, however, the politician did not back down.
The coalition that would launch it was made up of PR, PP, MDB and DEM. In a note, one of his supporters, then-federal deputy Laerte Bessa, said that he tried “by all means to convince him to stay in the campaign,” but that he respected the decision. “This was a personal decision and had the support of the family,” Bessa said at the time.

After the victory of Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), Frejat coordinated, at the invitation of the governor-elect, the group appointed to carry out an “X-ray” of the health system in the capital.
Ibaneis even regretted that Frejat was not interested in a new public office. “I would like that [ele] he took over, but he will be part of the group, ”Ibaneis said at the time.
The Frejat had already been cited by Ibaneis as part of the “group of notables”, a kind of council formed by political indications that fulfilled the function of bringing the “opinion of society” closer to the governor.
