On the afternoon of Thursday (19), a giant tree fell on Paulista Avenue and hit at least one car and one person. The victim was an 87-year-old lady. who suffered minor injuries but, due to her age, received care and was referred to a hospital in the region.
“She was really a minor victim, she had a cut on her hand and a broken leg, and she was treated by our teams. The image is impressive, all the lanes of a whole hand have been closed on the avenue. But it could have been worse, ”said the commander of the Fire Department, Maycon Cristo, to Urgente Brasil.
The avenue was blocked towards Paraíso, according to the Traffic Engineering Company (CET).
Adilson Nazário, from the City’s Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE), explained that there were no gusts of wind when the tree fell. “We did not register gusts of wind at that time on Avenida Paulista. We use not only our data, but also those of the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), University of São Paulo (USP), airports. None registered. I think that the rains of the last three days have caused the trees to become overweight. Thus, when they receive winds (even light ones) they can fall. We had information about falling trees in other parts of the city, including Parelheiros, ”he said.
