A manual vote counting in Georgia on Thursday confirmed Joe Biden’s victory in the state, election officials said. With that, the president-elect becomes the first Democrat to win in that constituency since 1992, the year Bill Clinton was elected.
According to official figures, Biden beat Donald Trump in state by 12,284 votes ahead – a small reduction of 496 votes compared to what was initially estimated. The result will be officially certified on Friday (20).
With Biden’s victory in Georgia, the Electoral College score will be 306 votes for Joe Biden to 232 for Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press projection.
- ELECTORAL MAP: See how was the dispute between Biden and Trump in the states
The proceeding came about because the vote count in Georgia ended with a Biden lead equal to just 0.28 percentage points. Such a margin entitles the loser, in this case Trump, to request a recount.

According to auditor Gabriel Sterling, Biden’s lead over Trump decreased slightly because authorities included a package with new ballots that had not been counted in the first ballot.
The minuscule difference from previously released figures reinforces a pattern in US electoral counts: in most cases, the results do not change.
As the difference remained below 0.5 percentage points, Trump will still have a chance to ask for a recount. In this case, however, the procedure would be carried out electronically.

The result represents another setback for the defeated president, who has been trying to reverse the Democratic victory in court, so far, without success. Trump has even criticized Georgia officials like Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both republicans.
Raffensperger even denounced Republicans close to Trump, such as Sen. Lindsey Graham, for being under pressure to interfere with the counting of votes for the defeated president. The parliamentarian denied any intention to intervene in the process.
- TRANSITION: Biden calls Trump’s attitude ‘irresponsible’
The Republican Party continues to monitor Georgia as the state will have a runoff in the January senatorial elections. There are two chairs in play. If Trump’s allies lose both votes, the Democratic Party will dominate the Senate by a minimal margin: There would be 50 seats for each party, in which case Vice President-elect Kamala Harris would have the right to vote.
Republicans are still trying to move into two states that have won the Democrat: Michigan, where the Trumpists are pressuring MPs and taxes to change the outcome; and Wisconsin, a state in which Trump spent $ 3 million to request a recount of votes in counties very favorable to Biden.
