At the inauguration of the return of brazilian championship, OR Saint Paul won the lantern Goias from a 2-1 comeback tonight, at the Morumbi stadium, and took the opportunity to play even more in the first places.
With the result, Tricolor jumped to third place, with 33 points, and three games less, while Esmeraldino remains in the lantern, with 12. At the beginning, however, it was the visitors who opened the scoring with Fernandão. Soon after, Brenner scored his 11th goal of the season, tying the game.
The two goals had to go through the intervention of the video referee, as well as other plays of the match. Tadeu was fundamental, as in the second stage. Speaking of which, Fernandão almost extended it to the visitors, on two occasions, one of them standing in the hands of Tiago Volpi, but the owners of the house, after much insistence, did it with Igor Gomes at 32.
In the next round, Esmeraldino will face Athletico-PR, on Saturday (14), at 5 pm, in Serra Dourada. The Tricolor faces the Fortaleza the same day, but at 7pm, away from home. Before, however, the team has a tough challenge against Flamengo, in Maracanã, for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup (11am, at 9:30 pm).
VAR in action everywhere
The game started quite truncated, with Goiás well closed and more possession of the ball by São Paulo. The first big chance came in the fourth minute, with Luciano down the left and a cross from Brenner, but the ball was cut off. However, the impediment was marked. Shortly after, at seven, Igor Gomes dropped a bomb from outside the area, to defend Tadeu.
Very disorganized, Esmeraldino could not maintain possession of the ball, with the entire team closed and only Fernandão trying to catch some scraps. Tricolor kept trying to get there, but without the necessary infiltrations to turn chances into goals. At 18 minutes, surprisingly (for what was presented so far) Esmeraldino opened the scoring precisely with the 99 shirt, at a table with Vinicius.
The answer came at 24, with a header from Brenner after a center from Juanfran. The VAR, as in the Goiás candidacy, needed to act and the goal was validated. Juanfran, right in the game, got a ball that would go to the head of Vinicius in minute 32, in the second arrival of the first half. Brenner was about to make the second at 35, in a kick that went back to Tadeu’s hands.
Second half, return of the Tricolor
With no team changes, Esmeraldino created a good opportunity in the fifth minute with Vinícius coming from the right, but the defense fell away. Tricolor kept pressing, as he did in the first stage, arriving with Luan in a beautiful play down the middle at eight minutes, for the new defense of Tadeu.
Brenner appeared again, after receiving from Luciano, at 12, but the ball brushed the post. The answer came at 16, with Fernandão, by chance in the upper center of Caju, out. Soon after, he tried again and Tiago Volpi made a great save.
After some attempts, although without danger, São Paulo came back with Igor Gomes in the 32nd minute, on a ball received at the entrance of the area. Shortly after, Rafael Moura left everything the same, but the impediment was correctly marked. Tricolor kept pushing in an attempt to expand further, but the score ended 2-1.
