A train that derailed in Spijkenisse, near Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was saved by a work of art with a whale’s tail.
Instead of falling from a height of 10 meters, the train, which did not stop at the signal and went off the tracks, ended up stopping on top of a statue titled “Saved by the Tail of a Whale.”
The conductor, who was the only person on board the train, managed to escape unscathed, the Daily Mirror said. He was taken to the hospital in shock.
Although it works very well as a train barrier, the artwork at De Akkers station was obviously not designed for this purpose.
