Rebecca Rayane da Silva Pereira, 4, died on October 23 after drowning while eating. The girl’s father, Diego Alves Pereira, made an outbreak on social networks after the case gained repercussion.

In the publication made by Diego, he comments that the child was born with a problem in the esophagus, underwent surgery and had a choking problem five times a day. “It was not an oversight. Anyone who knows us knows how much we take care of it, ”he wrote.

In an interview with G1, her father said that Rebecca was eating rice, beans and pepitas when she choked. The girl was taken to the hospital, but during the journey she did not resist and died. “I was working and my wife was at home with my seven-year-old son. At that point, my wife tried to unlink her, but failed and called the neighbor. They took the car and went to the UPA ”, said Diego.

According to Diego, Rebecca was born at 33 weeks and was diagnosed with atresia in the esophagus, an organic malformation. Before reaching 20 days of life, the girl had already undergone two surgeries.

“Depending on the food, she took a liquid with her and when she choked, sometimes she could come back alone. There is a surgical procedure that expands, but it hurts a lot and I would have to go for days without eating, but I was not overweight because I was still very small, “said the father.

Diego also reported that as soon as Rebecca was born and underwent surgery, the doctors said she would not be able to speak. A year after the diagnosis, the girl began to express herself with words, surprising her parents. “The first word he said was ‘daddy.’ Since he learned to speak, he has never spent a day without praying. The most important lesson he taught us was prayer, ”Diego said.
