PARIS – France recorded 523 deaths from Covid-19 on Tuesday, the highest number of deaths in a single day since April 22, according to data from the Health Ministry. In a closed-door meeting, Prime Minister Jean Castex told MPs that intensive care units (ICUs) will collapse on November 11 if stricter measures are not taken.

But according to broadcaster BMF, they would include a one-month national quarantine starting at midnight on Thursday. President Emmanuel Macron is expected to make a statement on the outbreak Wednesday night.
60% increase in cases in one week
This Tuesday 33,417 cases of Covid-19 were registered, a figure higher than Monday: 26,711. The record was on Sunday, when 52,010 new contaminations were reported.
Compared to last Tuesday’s figures, when France recorded 20,648 cases, there was a 60% increase in infections in one week.
For the second day in a row, more than 1,000 people were hospitalized with Covid-19. There were 1,194 this Tuesday and 1,307 on Monday. In addition, 148 people were transferred to intensive care units; in the second, they were 186.
At the moment, there is a curfew that applies to approximately two-thirds of the population, around 46 million people. Tours are limited from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am in 54 overseas departments and regions.
