The Minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) Francisco Falcão, who authorized the search and seizure orders, also ordered the blocking of R $ 23.4 million in assets of those investigated, in order to repair the moral and material damages.
According to investigations, the illicit scheme began in 2011, when the Social Organizations (OS) contracted by the government began to direct hospital expenses to providers, who then passed part of the money to public agents.
The scheme is determined within the scope of Operation Calvary, of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), which seeks to end an alleged criminal organization led by former Governor Ricardo Coutinho. Last year, investigations into this case led to the dismissal of two advisers from the ECA.
This Tuesday the practice of crimes of corruption and money laundering is being investigated. The starting point was the award that a businessman involved in the illegalities signed with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The operation had agents in Paraíba, Brasilia and Sergipe.
Deputy Attorney General Lindôra Araújo, appointed by the PGR to act in criminal cases pending before the STJ, also requested that precautionary measures be imposed on a lawyer suspected of joining the scheme.
