Four districts of the Regional II of Fortaleza are among the concentrators of the new occurrences of Covid-19 in the Capital, according to the latest epidemiological bulletin on the disease in the city, published by the Municipal Secretariat of Fortaleza (SMS) this Saturday (24). According to Pasta, groups of recent cases have been identified in neighborhoods Meireles, Aldeota, Mucuripe and Cocó.
The predominant age group for new patients is 20 to 39 years. In the evaluation of Pasta, the increase in cases in young people would be associated with the so-called “super-spreading” events or “Super spreaders“: Agglomerations with limited use of the mask and where people occupy spaces with little air circulation. This is the case for weddings, private parties, musical shows, religious events and opening ceremonies, the bulletin lists.
The situation is already reported in other countries. SMS also guarantees I have not found any relationship between the boom and the opening of schools.
Deaths from Covid-19 in Fortaleza
Increase
Also according to the survey published on Saturday, the current moving average (59.1 cases) is 38% higher than the one recorded two weeks ago. However, when considering the entire period of the pandemic, the movement rate is approximately 94% less than that measured at the apex, (952.4 cases). The peak of confirmed cases of this epidemic cycle occurred in the transition between the months of April and May. At that time, the moving average was always above 600 cases.
In the past seven days, however, the moving average of deaths increased by 86% compared to 14 days ago. However, the SMS explains, “the stage in which the municipality finds itself, with low mortality, minimal changes in the number of deaths, changes the moving average disproportionately.”
The bulletin reports that no deaths were reported on August 12 and 30; September 20, 24 and 28; and October 3, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 20 and 24.
Transmission
The proportion of positivity in RT-PCR examinations in residents of Fortaleza, analyzed by the Central Public Health Laboratory of Ceará (LACEN-CE), reached 13.2% between October 16 and 22. In the SMS assessment, “this indicates a higher viral circulation, which was reflected in the increase in the moving average of cases.”
The transmission in Fortaleza, however, can be considered low, despite the bullish oscillation of the last fortnight. The expansion of molecular testing (RT-PCR), now aimed at specific and symptomatic groups, and conducting seroepidemiological surveys would be essential for the timely monitoring of micro outbreaks in the Capital.
Sesa counters the claim of the ‘second wave’
Also on Saturday (24), the State Health Secretariat (Sesa) said in a statement that it is not yet possible to affirm the possibility of a second wave of Covid-19 in Ceará. The information clashes with the analysis carried out by the Scientific Committee of the Northeast Consortium, published this Friday (23). The State Ministry stated that it has been following the evolution of Covid-19 cases in Ceará on a daily basis and observes a geographic fluctuation in the statistics.
“There are small localized outbreaks, followed by a drop in records, as has happened recently in areas such as Cariri and Crateús. But there is also an increase in cases in other regions, such as the Sanitary Region of Fortaleza, where In the 44 municipalities of the 743 new cases were registered in the area (72% increase compared to the previous week), an average of 106 per day, ”Sesa says in a note.
On Friday (23), Governor Camilo Santana had reported that the commission that deliberates on the economic recovery plan of Ceará defined the prohibition of the holding of festive events in closed environments in the State from the next decree, which comes into force . next Monday (26).
He also drew attention to a fact presented at the committee meeting: that the recent increase in cases registered in some areas of Fortaleza has affected, with greater intensity, people between 20 and 39 years old.
