For Greta Thunberg, the new European agricultural policy 'fuels ecological destruction'

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg, along with other climate activists, denounced the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) adopted this Friday by the European Parliament, which “fuels ecological destruction.”

“Eleven months after the European Parliament declared the climate emergency, this same parliament voted in favor of continuing with an agricultural policy that, ultimately, fuels ecological destruction with about 400,000 million euros” (about 475,000 million dollars), wrote. last night on Facebook, in a message signed with four other climate activists.

The European Parliament yesterday adopted a new “greener” CAP for the European Union, which it must now negotiate with the states, but NGOs and many MEPs consider it too insufficient to respond to environmental and climate challenges.

Some parliamentarians and several NGOs showed their disappointment and indignation at the subsidies that continue to support intensive agriculture and insufficiently promote, according to them, more sustainable and environmentally friendly models.

“Are we disappointed? No. Because that would mean we were expecting a miracle. However, this day has once again demonstrated the size of the gap between current policies and what needs to be done to align with the Paris climate agreement, ”Thunberg added.
