Police Chief Gladyson de Souza Ferreira said today that he believes, according to the first investigations, that the crime that culminated in the death of Father Adriano da Silva Bastos, 36, in Manhumirim (MG), was premeditated to pay the drug debt of the brother. suspect arrested.
The 22-year-old who was arrested on Wednesday (14) would have said in his testimony that he had an affair with the priest and tried to extort money from him so that he would not disclose the relationship. However, the police did not believe this version and yesterday they interrogated him again.
“In fact, the act was premeditated. On Saturday (10), there was a meeting between the detainee, his brother and another person, apparently to plot this crime of robbery,” said the police chief. Manhumirim security area, which took over the case yesterday.
Still, according to Ferreira, the motivation would be a possible drug debt of the suspect’s brother to drug traffickers. He is from Rio de Janeiro and, during an approach by the Military Police of that state, he allegedly seized drugs.

The police are still trying to find the victim’s car, which has been taken to Rio de Janeiro, in addition to conducting searches to arrest the other two suspects of having participated in the crime.
Arrest of the first suspect
