The Court of Justice of Minas Gerais granted a precautionary measure, this Tuesday (6), which suspends the return of face-to-face classes in the state network of Minas. The decision to respond to a writ of mandamus filed by the Single Union of Education Workers of Minas Gerais (Sind-UTE / MG). The return was scheduled for the 19th.
The general coordinator of Sind-UTE, Denise Romano, affirmed that the state public network does not have the structure for the face-to-face return of classes. According to her, 1,114 schools do not have bathrooms for employees, who share bathrooms with students, 940 do not have cafeterias. The union also denounces that the number of service assistants is insufficient. “In health insurance, there is no guarantee that people who go to schools will not get COVID-19,” she said.
The service assistants are employees who work in the cleaning and preparation of snacks. “The sector works in small numbers and would be even more overloaded than it was. School organization in normal times is already difficult. They have to arrive early for meals, clean rooms, clean bathrooms ”, he reflects. According to her, the state public network has 200,000 employees, including teachers, educators and general service assistants.
“Injuring the victory of life over death. We are helping to preserve thousands of lives,” he defended. According to Denise, as the state network is structured, it is not possible to comply with the health protocols proposed by the Government of Minas Gerais. It also ensures that when resuming face-to-face classes, since there is a stabilization in the number of new cases and deaths from COVID-19.
The Government of Minas Gerais endorsed the return to face-to-face classes by publishing a health protocol last week. At a press conference this Monday (5), the chief of staff of the Secretary of State for Health, Joo Pinho, said that it is up to the mayors to define the moment to resume classes. He also said it would be up to parents to decide whether their children would go back to school or if they would stay home with remote classes.
