Target of death threats since 2016, the federal deputy Talíria Petrone (PSOL-RJ) asked the UN human rights rapporteurs to cover the Brazilian government’s explanations on their case.
“As if the threats to my life were not enough, a few days after the birth of my daughter, I received new threats. In June 2020, the ‘Direct Line’ of the Rio de Janeiro Police informed the Chamber of Deputies that there were more than five recordings of people talking about my death, ”Talíria told the Jamil Chad de Uol column.
All solidarity with @taliriapetrone, who reported 5 other recordings with death threats to the UN and asks for international protection. If they think they are going to shut up any of us, they are very wrong. We will not take any step back! He touched Talíria, he touched everyone and everyone! ✊

According to the deputy, if the UN rapporteurs accept the complaint, the case will become a formal UN charge to the Brazilian government. The gesture is intended to force the authorities to act, or at least create an international restriction that leads to greater protection for the parliamentarian.
“I have received threats against my life since my first election in 2016 to the Niterói City Council, in the state of Rio de Janeiro,” he said. “At first, I didn’t realize how serious this type of bullying could be. However, after the murder of my partner and friend Marielle franco, elected in the same year, I realized the real danger, ”he told Uol. So far, the government has not spoken.
In April 2019, the Federal Police obtained information from conversations captured on the so-called “dark web”, according to which, since 2018, a plan against the life of the parliamentarian was being drawn up. Since then, it has been accompanied by agents of the Legislative Police in the places where it circulates in Brasilia. However, the deputy affirms that the federal government and the government of Rio de Janeiro denied any type of protection.
