The state of Rio registered 97 deaths and 1,693 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to data published this Tuesday by the state government. In total, there are 18,388 victims and 263,699 infected by Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March. The occupancy of ICU beds in the municipal network reached 91.6%, a figure even higher than that registered in recent days.
The moving average is now 84 deaths and 1,420 cases per day in Rio de Janeiro. There is a 3% growth in the moving average of deaths compared to two weeks ago, which, being below 15%, indicates a scenario of stability in the contagion of the disease.
The 7-day moving average averages between the number of deaths for the day and the previous six. It is compared with the average of two weeks ago to indicate if there is an uptrend, stability or a downtrend. The calculation is a statistical resource to be able to see the trend of the data, drowning out the “noise” caused on weekends, when the notification of deaths is reduced due to the shortage of shift employees.
The data analysis was carried out from the survey of the press vehicle consortium formed by O GLOBO, Extra, G1, Folha de S.Paulo, UOL and O Estado de S. Paulo, which collects information from the health departments state.
ICU beds have an occupancy of 91.6% in the municipal network
An indicator that has worried specialists, researchers and even the biweekly analysis of the Covid-19 Risk Map of the state government, the occupation of beds in the capital continues with figures considered high. This Tuesday, according to the latest update from the city council, released in the early afternoon, the occupancy of ICU beds in the municipal network reached 91.6%, a figure even higher than those reported in the last two days.
According to the Municipal Health Secretariat, the municipality’s hospital network has 881 specialized beds for the treatment of the new coronavirus. Of these, 251 are in the ICU and there are 230 vacancies already filled. Another 254 occupy nursing beds, less serious cases.
According to the city, the number of beds is still higher than the demand for income for Covid-19 treatment, and there is no waiting list. The municipality, however, says that in the SUS network of the capital, which includes the city of Rio and the municipalities of Baixada, 65 people are waiting to be transferred to Covid beds, 32 of which to the UCI.
In the SUS network, which includes beds of municipal, state and federal units, the city has 79% of ICU beds occupied. The occupancy rate for nursing beds is 52%.
This Tuesday, EXTRA showed the story of João Firmino do Nascimento, 72, who, after being transferred to the UPA of Santa Cruz with symptoms of the new coronavirus, had to wait three days before being transferred to one of the units that help patients with the disease, and ended up not resisting the wait.
