São Paulo Governor João Doria (PSDB) said today that the state recorded an 11% drop in hospitalizations for covid-19 in the last epidemiological week (September 20-26). Thus, there are ten consecutive weeks of reduction, according to data from the State Department of Health.
“It is an unequivocal sign that the disease is receding solidly in the state of São Paulo,” said the governor. The number of hospitalizations is considered the main thermometer at the time of the pandemic, said Eduardo Ribeiro, executive secretary of the Department of Health.
All regions of the state have an occupancy of covid-19 beds below 70%, according to the Secretary of State for Regional Development. Another relevant data regarding hospitalizations is that, at this time, the ICU occupancy rate is 44.7% in the state, the lowest percentage since the start of the health crisis.
The data also reveals that the last week showed a 16% decrease in the number of deaths compared to the previous week. In terms of cases, there was a drop of 14%.
According to data from the State Department of Health, there are currently 3,930 people hospitalized for covid-19 in the ICU and 4,780 in hospital beds in São Paulo.
The cases of contamination by the new coronavirus in São Paulo amount to 973,142. New daily admissions averaged 1,125 last week, also indicating an improvement in the pandemic, according to the secretariat. The state accumulates 35,125 deaths from covid-19.
“It is never too much to remember that hospitalization is the most sensitive event on the thermometer of the advance of the pandemic, without this meaning that we must lower our guard,” said Eduardo Ribeiro, executive secretary of the portfolio.
