The Santa Catarina state government decided this Friday that there will be no more face-to-face classes in 2020 in the state school system. The State Department of Education defined that state schools resume only with pedagogical support activities and no more classes in normal classes as happened before the pandemic. The face-to-face classes are suspended since March 19.
Remote activities continue until the state school system closes. The municipal school system and private schools, for their part, may decide to resume classes in person, when the Secretary of State for Health is relieved. At the moment, there is no release for the return of face-to-face classes or pedagogical activities. Everything remains suspended until at least October 12.
The reinforcement begins with Terceirão
The resumption of pedagogical support activities in the state network begins with students in the 3rd year of high school, with the return of one year of education each week, which must include students up to the last years of primary school. Activities at the school site are scheduled until December 18.
For schools offering only elementary education, the staggered return should begin in the ninth grade classes, following the secondary school calendar.
Vocational education also takes up the compulsory internships and practical classes, while in the Youth and Adult Education centers the staggered return should begin with secondary school, followed by primary school, the last years and, finally, primary in the years initials.
Municipality and private sector choose resumption model
Municipal, private and federal networks have the autonomy to decide how to carry out pedagogical actions and resume face-to-face classes in their networks, but they must follow what is established in the State Contingency Plan for Education (PlanCon). Municipal committees must be formed to approve school plans before returning.
Ordinance 750, issued on Friday, establishes that any resumption of activities must respect the potential risk matrix and the determined health rules.
PlanCon defines the strategies, actions, and general response routines to face the new coronavirus epidemic. The set of measures must be adapted to the situation of each municipality or school unit.
At the moment, there is no established deadline to return to face-to-face classes. COES monitors the progress of the pandemic daily and the potential risk assessment tool, which is published weekly and evaluated for decision making.
“We still have the understanding that education should not be returned in regions with serious risk. We also understand that it is necessary to create clear rules for when the risk matrix allows this return, ”said Secretary of State for Health, André Motta Ribeiro.
