“Due to all this insecurity, we came to the conclusion that this process must be postponed. We are in permanent meeting. We did not decide the cancellation, but at that time in February the samba school parade cannot occur. Since July, a lot has changed. We are still waiting on the issue of vaccines. We receive different news that do not give us security at the moment. The traditional fashion show takes much longer. Our fight is not to cancel ”, said the president of Liesa, Jorge Castanheira.
The leader also spoke about the possibility of concretion in other months of 2021.
“We are going to try to find a solution in the coming months that will occur on another date, with regard to people’s health, thinking not to disturb the 2022 calendar as well. We hope that at some point we will have an answer for people who depend on carnival . February is difficult. But we are together with the government looking for alternatives ”.
Jorge Castanheira said that it is necessary to have a vaccine until February for an alternative model of the parade to occur even next year.
“If you don’t have a vaccine by February, we can’t do it. We will be in contact with prospecting to define the alternatives with the government. There is a strong study in this direction to find an alternative model, since in February it is not viable both from the point of view of the term and of health security ”.
According to Castanheira, Liesa and the presidents of the samba schools evaluate alternative models of parades and economic resources.
“There is the possibility of an alternative project, with another type of regulation. All of this has been developing since the moment we cannot carry out immunization in February. We are evaluating alternative financial resource assumptions. Everything is being studied. We understand that in January we need to have perspective ”.
