A car loaded with watermelons struck five vehicles and caught fire immediately; one victim suffered cardiopulmonary arrest and the other died charred to hardware
A tragic accident caused the death of one person and left at least nine others in serious condition on the BR-381 in the district of Nova Aparecida in the central region of Minas Gerais on Friday morning (18). A wagon loaded with watermelons was heading in the direction of Victoria when it crashed into five vehicles and caught fire. The information is still preliminary, but, according to the Fire Department, the occupant of one of the vehicles involved in the accident died charred and his body is imprisoned in the hardware.
There are also nine wounded whose health is very serious, one of them, according to the military who answered the call, suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. The Arcángel helicopters of the Fire Department and Carcará of the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) are located on the section of the road where the accident occurred to help the most serious victims.
BR-381 is completely closed in the direction of Vitória in the municipality of Nova União, to which the district of Nova Aparecida belongs. One option for those who continue there is to exit by BR-356 towards the municipalities of Ouro Preto, Mariana, Ponte Nova and Rio Casca and then take BR-262 – this is a detour with an increase of approximately one hundred kilometers over the original route , but that escapes from the section where the accident occurred and where until then there are no provisions for the release of the road.
Six accidents in 24 hours
The largest accident recorded on BR-381 in Nova União on Friday morning (18) is the sixth to occur on the road in just 24 hours, and even at the beginning of Thursday (17) an interdiction was necessary near KM 438 in the Ravena district of Sabará, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, for the removal of a car that fell the previous morning. Three of the collisions recorded in the period occurred in sections under the responsibility of Arteris – Fernão Dias, the concessionaire contracted to manage part of the highway heading to São Paulo.
One of these raids took place in Betim, also in the metropolitan region of BH, and there was a looting of the fallen fruit truck. In addition to them, there were also collisions in the municipality of São Sebastião da Bela Vista -whose section is still braked this Friday morning- and in Lavras in the Midwest of the state, the last of which occurred in the early morning.
The other three raids took place in Caeté and Rio Manso, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, and in Bom Jesus do Amparo, in the central region of Minas Gerais. The latter is the most serious among them and until 6 am on Friday (18) the tracks were still closed in the direction of Espírito Santo. According to the Fire Department, three trucks collided and collided with two passenger cars. Only two of the trucks are known to have caught fire after the collision and one of the passenger cars got stuck between them. A SAMU doctor assisted the victims of minor injuries. The army does not yet have information about the compressed car between the trucks; Given the force of the impact, it is not yet known which model of the car and how many people would be in it at the time of the accident.
