The bars of Savassi, Central-South Region of Belo Horizonte, in the district of União, Northeast Region, and in the center of the mining capital, are packed on Friday nights (4). After nearly six months closed due to the new coronavirus pandemic, this was the first night they were able to open the doors and sell alcohol.
In the União neighborhood, Rua Alberto Cintra, which is a traditional stronghold of the region’s bars, was packed in the early afternoon. Inspectors from the city council would stop by the bars to guide the owners and also the customers on the operating rules, such as the use of masks and the space between tables.

Establishments that have entrance and exit doors to the street can open all weekend, from 11 am to 10 pm. But the sale of alcoholic beverages is restricted between 5 pm on Friday and 10 pm on Sunday.
The bars located within the galleries and shopping centers will only be open from Monday to Thursday, from 12:00 to 15:00. On Fridays it is open from 12 noon to 8 at night, the maximum time allowed for galleries and shopping centers. Saturdays and Sundays they cannot open.

Live music and screen not allowed
Theatrical performances, live music, image projections and sporting events are prohibited in bars and restaurants in Belo Horizonte. The decision was published in the edition of this Thursday (3), of the Official Gazette of the Municipality (DOM).
According to the ordinance of the Municipal Health Secretariat, these events can generate crowds.

A decree published by the City of Belo Horizonte on September 1 establishes the rules for the use of streets and sidewalks by bars and restaurants. The procedures are temporary, while the pandemic lasts.
Owners must request a license from the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Policy of the capital to use the space on the sidewalk, closed block or removable platform over the parking area for vehicles on public roads. The measure also applies to other establishments that serve food with consumption on site, such as ice cream parlors, coffee shops and coffee shops.
The placement of tables and chairs is allowed on weekdays and during the hours when bars and restaurants can operate with consumption on site. Furniture can be placed on the sidewalk, up to six meters on each side from its limit. Owners must protect pedestrian traffic and respect the minimum distance of 1.5 m from the access limit to the neighbor’s garage.
It is not allowed to place furniture in spaces for accredited vehicles for the elderly or disabled, ambulances and taxi stands. According to the BH city council, anyone who uses public space without observing the rules will be penalized.
