RIO – An articulated BRT bus deviated from a Military Police vehicle and collided with Interlagos Station, in Barra da Tijuca, West Zone of Rio, on Thursday morning, leaving at least 15 passengers injured. Seven were treated at the scene and the rest were transferred to the Lourenço Jorge Hospital, in Barra. According to the Municipal Secretary of Health, the eight treated have minor injuries. Part of the bus is at the entrance to the terminal, which had to be closed after the accident.

Considered a hero by the passengers for the maneuver he had to perform, the driver Edinaldo Felipe said that he was within the maximum speed allowed on the road, 60 km / h. He also notes that PM’s car suddenly hit the track. Then he only had the reflex to brake the articulated bus:

I only know that the car went ahead of the road, right after the accident, the driver called the family to tell them that everything was fine and that “it was just a big scare.” Edinaldo Felipe said that he was able to observe that no other article was coming in the opposite direction and that there were no passengers inside the station, at that specific point. It was then that he stopped and swerved the bus into the other lane. For the passengers, this was essential to avoid a great tragedy.

– Everything was very fast, I only had time to hold and help the girl who was behind me and who fell to the ground. I opened the middle door to help the victims out. The bus must have had more than 100 passengers at the time of the accident. The driver still managed to have a reaction when the car appeared, but then when he drove up the sidewalk he lost control.
