  • Government decree authorizes the return to face-to-face classes in the state

The classification in flags was a criterion adopted by the state government to define the levels of risk of contagion by the new coronavirus. The division is part of the “Retake Pará” plan, which provides for the gradual reopening of economic activities in the state.

During the plan, the government of Pará will use flags to mark the five reopening phases. According to the Government, the state was divided into zones, which were classified according to the rate of beds available in ICU, test rates and rate of infection of the disease in each region.

According to the criteria determined by the Government, each region of the state was classified between:

  • High risk (red flag): municipalities with high transmission rate and low capacity of the health system
  • Medium risk (orange flag): municipalities with medium transmission rate and medium capacity of the health system
  • Intermediate risk (yellow flag) – Municipalities of Pará with intermediate transmission rate and medium capacity
  • Low risk (green flag): municipalities with low transmission rates and high capacity in the health system
  • Minimal risk (blue flag) – Municipality with minimum transmission rate and high capacity of the health system

According to the state attorney general, Ricardo Sefer, although they are authorized to open, it is up to the prefectures of each municipality and the school directors to decide whether or not to return with face-to-face activities. If any school decides not to return to activities, classes must be offered remotely.

“The return is not obligatory neither for the schools nor for the students. They can choose another date. For those schools that choose to return, they must, compulsorily, offer the student the possibility of not returning and continue teaching in the modality. The choice of whether or not to go to the classroom is up to the student, the student’s parents, if they feel comfortable and safe ”, adds Sefer.
