Brasilia – The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said on Thursday (14) that he asked President Jair Bolsonaro to postpone the application of the tests of the National Examination of Secondary Schools (Enem) this year, in due to the new coronavirus pandemic, which causes covid-19.

“An important claim that I made to the president, and they let him evaluate, he said that it is very important and that there was a great demand from the House, is the postponement of Enem. He was very sensitive, he was evaluating and giving an answer, ”said Maia. The congressman visited the Planalto Palace to visit the Operations Coordination Center of the Covid-19 Crisis Committee (Ccop) at the invitation of the ministers Luiz Eduardo Ramos, of the Government Secretariat, and Braga Netto, of the Civil House.

Students have until May 22 to register for the exam, whose tests this year can also be taken online. The printed Enem will be applied on November 1 and 8 and the digital version on November 22 and 29. However, students from all over the country have reported difficulties in accessing the Internet on social media and problems studying the exam content.

With the confirmation of the date of application of the examination by the government, the deputies and senators have presented proposals to postpone the tests. In the House, party leaders have been lobbying the Speaker of the House to build alternatives that ensure that the pandemic does not harm students. Among the proposals, written by the deputy Alexandre Frota (PSDB / SP), he proposes to postpone the application of the test for 60 days.

Dialogue

In a press conference after the meeting, Rodrigo Maia defended the dialogue between the government and the Chamber of Deputies to face the public health crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic. The congressman has been criticized by President Jair Bolsonaro, according to which Maia would act to harm the government and benefit politically.

“I told [Jair Bolsonaro] that we must find the points that unite us, that we all have the same objective, which is to take care of the life of Brazilians and look at the post-pandemic, ”said the deputy. “We differ on the issue of isolation, but that cannot divide us. [É] important that everyone can sit at the table, “Maia said.

“Conflicts generate insecurity and the loss of society’s trust, at a time when those responsible for dialogue face off. My institutional role is to bring the House’s agenda to the President and show him what we are doing. We have a divergence in the moment of isolation, but that cannot divide us, “added the congressman.

Maia also said that the administrative and fiscal reforms will return to the voting list of the Chamber of Deputies in the coming weeks. According to Maia, administrative reform should be of a different size, and taxes may include other issues, such as income, in addition to reform in the goods and services sector.
