President Jair Bolsonaro published a decree to expand the services considered essential, which, in practice, does not allow them to be closed by decision of governors and mayors, even during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The President declared that gyms, beauty salons and hairdressers will be included in this decree.
“The issue of life must be addressed in parallel with the issue of employment. Without an economy, there is no life,” Bolsonaro said.
On Sunday (10), the executive director had said that he would create decrees to open trade again. “Tomorrow, I must put some more essential professions there. Since they don’t want to open, I will open it,” he declared at the entrance to the Alvorada Palace.
The Minister of Health, Nelson Teich, was surprised by this statement by the President. During a press conference, he was asked about the decree and said he was not consulted on the matter. “This is a responsibility of the Ministry of Economy,” said Teich.
However, the minister emphasized that it is necessary to think about how to work in this reopening so as not to endanger the lives of the population. When asked if he should have been consulted to guide the economy, as he should act for this reopening, Teich limited himself to saying that he is available and that changes can be made in the midst of the crisis.
