According to the balance of the State Department of Health (SES), between March 12 and May 6, 15,313 tests were carried out to detect Covid-19, while the number of suspicions, until that day, was 91,618.

Minas Gerais tested only 16.7% of the suspected coronavirus cases reported to the State Department of Health (SES). According to the balance of the ministry, between March 12 and May 6, 15,313 tests were carried out to detect Covid-19, while the number of suspicions, until that day, was 91,618.

On Monday (11), the number of possible reported infections exceeded 100,000 in the state, according to a daily bulletin published by the state government. In addition, on average, the number of suspected coronavirus cases increased per day in Minas, in the last week until this Sunday (10), by 2,076.

This amount is almost ten times less than the daily average of tests applied in the state, which was 277 in the 55 days in which the exams were performed, between March 12 and the last day 6.

In relation to the size of the population of Minas, which is 20.87 million people according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the tests reach only 0.0007% of the miners.

The suspicious case, according to the folder, is classified as “anyone with an acute respiratory condition, notified by the health service with suspected SARS-VOC-2 infection.”

Despite the average of 277 daily tests applied, the test capacity in Mines, according to SES, is up to 2,000 exams per day in the “partner laboratories”. Currently, there are 1,754 coronavirus tests awaiting results, according to the folder, and of the total, 13,559 have been published.

In a note, SES reported that the number of tests performed daily is “variable” in the State and “depends on the number of samples that reach the laboratories.” In addition, the secretariat clarifies that not all suspects will be evaluated in Minas.

The guideline is that only people with Severe Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) undergo testing, health professionals with symptoms, suspected coronavirus-related deaths, and “by representative sampling” in cases of flu syndrome occurring in closed places “.

SES says it believes that nursing homes, correctional units and hospitals, for example, fit the definition of the latter hypothesis.

“Although there is an increase in the number of cases reported, considering that not all will cover the clinical situation that makes the examinations possible, it is possible to infer that the number of test requests does not grow in the same proportion,” emphasizes the folder in a note. .

Among the cases that will not be evaluated, explains the SES, are “cases of patients with mild symptoms and without indicators that place them in risk groups.”
