Congestion decreased on the first day of the new rotation in the city of São Paulo. According to measurements made for the Traffic Engineering Company (CET), the capital of São Paulo had a 1 kilometer bottleneck peak at 8:30 am on Monday (11). Vehicle rotation has been suspended in São Paulo since March, when quarantine began due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus. However, on Friday (7), the mayor of São Paulo, Bruno Covas, announced the return and expansion of the restriction of vehicles that circulate in the city as an action to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the city.
The restriction was generally valid for one day of the week for each vehicle. In the new scheme, even-numbered vehicles can only drive on even days of the month. Vehicles with odd end plates, on odd days.

Essential services

Taxis and public transport vehicles can operate normally, any day of the week. However, application controllers must respect the new rotation.
The restriction on the movement of vehicles excludes the fire and rescue services, the police, surveillance vehicles and traffic operations, as well as ambulances. Winch and motorcycle services are also exempt.
