Wuhan, birthplace of the coronavirus pandemic, records 5 new cases

The Chinese National Health Commission reported on Monday (11) that it detected 17 new cases of the new coronavirus yesterday, five of them in Hubei province, the birthplace of the outbreak.

According to the provincial health authorities, these are asymptomatic infected people located in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, who have begun to show symptoms of covid-19.

The central-eastern province of Hubei registered a case of local contagion the previous day, after 35 consecutive days without detecting new infections.

Of the ten local infections diagnosed across the country in the past 24 hours, including five in Hubei, three correspond to the northeast Jilin province (where a new outbreak was identified with approximately 20 people infected in the past five days) and two remaining in neighboring Liaoning and Heilongjiang, with one in each.

As for the cases of travelers from abroad, the so-called imported cases represented seven out of a total of 17 and were diagnosed in the province of northern Inner Mongolia.

Also, health officials said that as of yesterday, 24 patients had been discharged and China now has 141 active cases, of which nine are in serious condition.

It is the first time since January that the number of critically ill patients has dropped below ten.
