Despite having spread around the world for months, the new coronavirus still has many unknown characteristics for scientists and doctors. One of them would be a possible reinfection by the pathogen, since some people even did a second time test for Covid-19.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) explained on Sunday (3) that these cases are “false positives” for the disease. This is because the test would have identified the genetic material of the virus, inactive, in the dead lung cells, which generated an incorrect result in the cures.
Despite this, the WHO technical leader in the fight against SARS-CoV-2, Maria Van Kerkhove, understands that it is possible to have new waves of contamination in the future. The situation would depend on how and when countries abandon their social isolation measures, since many people distanced themselves without having been exposed to the virus.
Since the weekend, the countries of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) have loosened their respective quarantines. Some companies deemed nonessential have begun to open, but the requirements for masks and not to generate crowds continue.
