I am optimistic, I think we will find a way to overcome difficulties and get the game of life right, “he says.

From the beginning of the quarantine, you are at home, taking care of and without receiving visits (you only went out once to go to the market). Do you think you were contaminated there?
We took all the precautions, my daughter and son-in-law did not even visit us, they locked us up at home, we only went out once, we went to the supermarket, also taking care. We went early, at 6:30 am, with very few people, we were wearing a mask and we stayed for about an hour and a half. After that, the purchases were only for delivery. I think we got infected there, because after about eight days, Rachel started with a fever and it was a whirlwind.

What did you feel? Was I very scared by the symptoms?
In fact, when the symptoms started … And since we had taken the 23 flu and pneumococcal vaccine, we were protected from the annual flu … My sister-in-law Luiza Martins Vieira, an infectious disease doctor, decided to do the Covid 19 protocol. because he suspected Our symptomatology. We progressed very well and in five days we had no fever or symptoms. But, two days later, the fever returned very high, with tiredness, prostration, lack of appetite, we could not bear it, we did not have difficulty breathing, just a surreal fatigue, so we went to the Copa D’Or Hospital for more elaborate examinations and The CT scan showed viral pneumonia, a ground-glass image characteristic of Covid-19, which took 50% of mine and 25% of my wife’s lungs. Then I was hospitalized, direct to the ICU, this was a very difficult time …

Many people who had Covid report that the disease has ups and downs, on some days the person wakes up better, on others worse. How did you go?
Exactly, there are days when you think you are fine, you get smarter and suddenly there is fever, tiredness, discomfort, the days go by, it is desperate. My evolution, until today, the day of my discharge, April 30, was 18 days. And I’m still in treatment, but today I feel really good.

What is more difficult at Covid?
Physical and psychological symptoms are difficult to deal with, there was a time when I was hospitalized and thought I might die. The tranquility came because I was being very well attended and I began to believe that it would be fine, my psychology improved.

On television and on the Internet, the news is quite discouraging. Did you take a break from the news for that?
Yes! At first I didn’t feel like anything, then when I got better, through medical and technical interviews, movies and the Multishow channel, ‘Vai que Cola’, a comedy show.

Have you ever been afraid of the evolution of the disease?
I tried not to think about the evolution of the disease, I had great faith that it would be fine and the presence of my sister-in-law who accompanied me and took all my doubts, spoke with the doctors, gave me a lot of reassurance and the certainty that I would get out of this .

You and Rachel got sick. How do you do everyday tasks?
We have an employee, José Roberto, who has lived with us for 30 years. Thank God he was not contaminated and is the one who does all the housework, cleaning, food, etc. My daughter Tainah is our neighbor and she makes all the pharmacy, fair, supermarket orders, in short, she gives us all the necessary support.

What do you have to say to those who still think the disease is a cold?
It is a real mistake to think that it is a cold, only those who have the disease know it. It may even be smoother for some, but it also kills, who will pay to see it? It is not just any disease, it is overwhelming, and isolation is necessary because if everyone gets infected at the same time, there will be no health system to deal with. In the ICU where I was, there were 9 positions and all were occupied. What I have to say is: just leave the house in real need.
