On Friday, a health commission visited four hospitals in the capital to inspect the prevented beds, meaning they cannot be used due to lack of professionals, supplies or damage. In all the units, the scenario was repeated: empty, unused beds, while thousands of patients waited in agony to occupy them. According to the commission, there are 1,840 in this condition, distributed in the 27 large public hospitals and Regional Emergency Coordinators (REC) in the city.
The group is made up of federal deputy Pedro Paulo and councilor Átila Alexandre Nunes, both from DEM-RJ, in addition to the former Secretary of Health of Rio, Daniel Soranz. At the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, according to Soranz, the group found 43 beds that could alleviate the suffering of patients waiting in corridors and chairs in the yellow and red rooms of the neighboring emergency, CER Barra.
– It is scary to see 1,840 excellent quality beds in hospital units with all the imaging, laboratory and hospitality structures closed due to the lack of nursing technicians and nurses. Many visited beds have full equipment and even respirators. Everything stopped, unused, because the center of attention of the city council and the state are temporary field hospitals, he said.
