A 21-year-old girl was detained since Tuesday (6) in Chapecó, in western Santa Catarina, suspected of having fractured her 3-year-old daughter’s leg. According to the Civil Police, the aggression was motivated because the girl could not fire the toilet cistern.
The case arrived at the Police Station for Children, Adolescents, Women and the Elderly (DPCAMI) after the mother took the girl to medical attention at the Hospital Regional do Oeste, in Chapecó. The suspect alleged that the daughter fell from a ladder, but the team that treated the victim suspected the justification and called the Civil Police, which began investigating the case the day before the suspect’s arrest.
The investigation found that the girl had been indoors for seven days with a broken leg, swelling in her lower extremities and a fever. The mother only took her daughter to the doctor after a neighbor suspected the girl’s health.
The neighbor would have been surprised by the disappearance of the girl who always played outside the apartment. He went to the victim’s home and witnessed the girl’s health there, influencing the mother to take her daughter to the doctor.
According to delegate Washington Vieira, who is investigating the case, the General Institute of Legal Medicine (IGP) conducted a criminal test on the girl and did not point out a possible domestic accident as the cause of her broken leg.
In addition to the examination, in an interview conducted by a psychologist, using techniques for the child’s age, the victim confirmed the aggressions caused by the mother, to whom her identity was not revealed in order to preserve the child.
“We found that this version of falling down the stairs did not consist because it did not have these characteristics, like other injuries in different parts of the body. In the interview with the psychologist, the girl ended up revealing that she was attacked by her mother and that they told her to lie. to hide the responsibility of the crime ”, said the delegate.
After collecting the testimonial and documentary evidence of the report, the Civil Police requested the court to arrest the mother, authorized on Tuesday. The agents executed the order the same day in Chapecó.
“A few hours after the warrant was issued, we were able to locate her at another address where the crime occurred,” Chief Vieira said.
In testimony, the mother reaffirmed that her daughter fell from a ladder. She was processed for qualified torture and sent to the Chapecó Penitentiary. The relatives, who are now guarding the girl, have informed the Civil Police that she is recovering well.
