Manaus – Approximately 23 older people from the Doctor Thomas Elderly Support Foundation (FDT), who tested positive for Covid-19, are being cared for by the institution’s own health team. A semi-intensive unit to treat the disease, caused by the new coronavirus, was established at the foundation’s facilities by the Samel group, the same person in charge of managing the Gilberto Novaes municipal campaign hospital in the north.
The FDT health team is monitoring three older people in the semi-intensive room, targeting patients with severe symptoms. In the other two isolation rooms, one for patients with moderate symptoms, 12 older people are sheltered, while in the case of patients with mild or asymptomatic symptoms that tested positive, eight older people are in it. Five deaths were recorded at the institution, caused by Covid-19. The victims were elderly and already had comorbidities.
The four older people who were discharged on April 21 are cured, symptom-free and immunized, but still remain isolated in their wards, without access to common areas, monitored by nursing technicians, and receive medical visits twice a day.
“We are receiving therapeutic responses from patients, they have shown positive responses and, from now on, the medical team hopes to reduce the number of cases with reinforced isolation practices, in addition to discharging the elderly who no longer have symptoms. We continue to live one day at a time, steadfast in the fight with the effort of the entire team, all the professionals are very committed and hope to win this war ”, stated the technical manager of the FDT health team, Simone Henriques.
