An 11-year-old girl became pregnant after being raped in Amambai, in southern Mato Grosso do Sul. The suspect in the crime is the girl’s stepfather, who confessed to the police when he was arrested. He was charged with rape of vulnerable people.
According to information from the Civil Police, the family lives in one of the city’s indigenous villages. The 25-week pregnancy was discovered during a child’s medical consultation. She told health professionals that she had been abused by her stepfather for over a year, each time her mother left home and left her in his care.

The Guardianship Council and the police were called. The girl’s mother was listened to and said that she found out about the pregnancy only after the medical examination. She said that she had not known her husband’s whereabouts for a few days.
The case began to be investigated, the police requested the arrest of the man and the warrant was issued by the court. Last Tuesday (1st) he was located and arrested. “He didn’t want to say much. He just confessed,” says the delegate responsible for the case, Caio Macedo.
According to the investigation, the girl’s mother was unaware of the abuse. “We had no evidence that the mother knew of the fact. She only found out when she took her daughter to receive medical attention. We also found no evidence that she committed a crime against other children,” explains the chief.
