Preparations are being made for the elections, so that every time Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis decides to go to the polls, after a year in office, everything will be ready.

The law to facilitate the exercise of the right to vote of voters outside Greek territory was approved in December 2019 (Law 4648/2019) – stipulated that the procedure for registration, change and suspension or elimination of the application, the form of voter certification and any other necessary technical details must be determined by ministerial decision.
Now, with the start of the gradual lifting of the restrictive measures for the pandemic, the Minister of the Interior, Takis Theodorikakos, has chosen to give the sign of a “blue” regularity, with a registration stamp. The so-called electoral headquarters, the Ministry of the Interior, is on high alert.
Once Monday (4.5.2020), signed a decision detailing the steps that foreign voters must follow to request registration in the Special Electoral Catalogs of Foreign Voters. According to the decision (prot. No. 27336 / 4.5.2020), presented by documentonews.gr, stipulates that the possession of A.F.M. by the voter and the corresponding codes of A.A.D.E. it is a prerequisite for the use of special electronic voter certification.
Greek citizens who are registered on electoral lists have the right to submit a registration application to the Special Electoral Catalogs of Foreign Voters. The voter who wishes to enter the special electronic voter certification application must register as a user. Your certification during registration is done through the credentials you have in the application. “TaxisNet” of the Independent Public Income Authority (A.A.D.E.).
The voter, in his electronic application, selects the country and the city in which he wishes to exercise his right to vote abroad. The country and city are selected from the lists of countries and cities on which a Greek diplomatic authority is based.
Once finalized, the Special Electoral Catalogs of Foreign Voters and special marks on the main electoral list are updated, when necessary. The integration of these changes will take place during the next revision of the basic electoral lists.
It is worth noting that the application is uploaded, under the responsibility of the Director of Elections of the Ministry of the Interior, to a competent employee of the Directorate of Elections. The charge is made through an automated process from the application, in order to follow the order of priority resulting from the order of presentation of each application. After verifying the necessary voter information and supporting documents, the Director of Elections at the Home Office accepts or rejects the voter’s request and informs the applicant-voter.
In case of acceptance of the application, the voter is registered in the special electoral list of overseas voters for a period of 8 years and a relevant indication is placed in the basic electoral list. The updating of the special electoral list of voters abroad and the marking of the main electoral list is carried out during the next revision of the electoral lists.
In case of rejection of the application, the voter is informed about the right of appeal before the three-member Administrative Court of First Instance, in accordance with paragraphs 4 and 5 of article 2 of law 4648/2019. If the procedure to appeal the previous paragraph is not followed, the voter may appeal to the Special Interparty Committee of paragraph 2 of article 2 of law 4648/2019. In the second case, the appeal is made by sending an email to the Ministry of the Interior from the declared email account and attaching an identity document of the applicant; otherwise, the request is ignored.
