For the city council yesterday that was informed by the mayor: «The atmosphere was very good, all the factions agreed on the need for the project. Another municipal council will follow, in which we will specify all the issues that exist in the existing memorandum of understanding. It is a fact that will be approved to proceed with the issuance of Double Regeneration.».
On whether there were objections from the opposition: «Everyone has their own ideological understanding of what mass sports should be like. But overall there was a positive climate».
On whether there will be a risk of appeal: «It is a mature urban and environmental project. This means that there are no cormorants. No inhibiting factors».
For the inclusion of the project in the Recovery Fund: «Projects are evaluated based on their maturity. The general double regeneration program is mature, so we can incorporate it into various sources of funding.».
For bilateral project agreements: «The process has begun to shape the conditions of bilateral agreements, initially with the government, with the Amateur and PAE Panathinaikos. In the near future we will have a specialized framework of agreements with all stakeholders. All agreements will be approved by the city council, because this is how it should be done and everyone will know what we all agree on.».
On the subject of indoor basketball: «There are options for the adjacent parcel and we will present them to KAE in time. There are 3-4 spaces and we will present the model to the people of KAE. We want that when discussing this project we are well prepared and present our proposal in its entirety. We will discuss all issues with the OEM. On the issue of financing, with the care and expense of the City of Athens, we will propose the financing model for the stadium. All issues will be discussed with OEM first and then communicated».
By the form that indoor basketball will have and to which it will belong: «It will be a multi-purpose space, which will be the physical headquarters of Panathinaikos basketball, but it will also be multi-purpose, like basketball courts throughout Europe. I would not like to say anything about where the plot and funding will belong until the meeting with the OEM».
On whether you are concerned about appeals for indoor basketball: «No, because it is a project whose constructive philosophy and the procedures to be followed have no urban or technical problems. Everything will be taken into account and when the time comes we will have processed all these technical, urban and legal issues.».
On if anything scares you about the Double Regeneration project: «It’s a great project, but there’s nothing that really scares us. It needs a lot of attention, because if something is said more or less there can be problems. We are ready to discuss with all those interested in the project. I am not afraid of anything that can stop it, because all the problems have been overcome. Everything will be done transparently, but will be released when complete».
