Two e-commerce companies have referred Consumer advocate to the General Secretariat of Commerce for imposing fines.
The independent authority “Consumer Defender”, as noted in its announcement, after reports received by consumers to the detriment of two companies of different interests, whose purpose is to trade in goods through Internet (electronic stores) and after a thorough investigation found that:
The the consumers (200 in the first company and 187 in the second) ordered several products, which were paid in advance since the specific electronic stores did not accept cash on delivery. The products were never delivered and, despite the authority’s mediation, the money paid by consumers was never returned to them.
After the previous unfair and deceptive commercial practices and the systematic violation of consumer protection legislation during the supply of products through the Internet (Law 2251/1994), the Consumer Defender, by virtue of no. prot. 18396 / 14-4-2020 and 18764 / 16-4-2020 documents, forwarded to the General Secretariat for Trade and Consumer Protection cases for the imposition of administrative penalties and prescribed fines.
In addition, the Consumer Ombudsman will proceed against the two companies and their legal representatives with, in accordance with article 37, paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, an announcement of criminal acts before the Athens Prosecutor’s Office.
It should be noted that the two companies through electronics shops they had them for sale at preferential prices relative to the competition, high-tech products (mobile phones, laptops, tablets, etc.).
Finally, the Independent Authority reminds consumers that special care should be taken when shopping online, according to the Athens News Agency.
