The threat to veto the US defense budget bill is echoed on Twitter by the country’s president in a move that appears to be another communication quirk.
In a proposal on his Twitter account, Donald Trump estimates that this bill will favor China and therefore will veto it, without giving further details.
The problem for the outgoing president is that the bill has been approved by both legislatures with a large majority, which means that Congress can bypass the president’s veto.
It is noted that, among other things, the specific bill includes the provision providing for the imposition of sanctions, within 30 days, “on any person who is knowingly involved in the acquisition of the S-400 system” from Turkey and It requests the identification of the collaborators who will produce spare parts for the F-35 on behalf of Turkish companies within 15 days. The bill will allow the president of the United States to lift sanctions after one year.
A possible bypass of the presidential veto will be a first for Donald Trump’s term and will be one of the last slaps on the outgoing president.
This, of course, is not the first time that Trump has made such threats, as he has opposed them in the past on the basis of provisions that provide for the renaming of military installations bearing the names of officials of the ” South “of the American Civil War. The White House has not commented on when Donald Trump will take action, but the president only has nine business days to go as the bill later becomes state law without his signature.
